Rare of Breed is more than an artist. It's a reminder that your past does not
define your future.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Rob Hardin's early years were marked by instability and time in foster care. During that season, a therapist handed him a notebook and encouraged him to write. What started as a way to process life eventually became songwriting, laying the foundation for the voice he carries today.
As a teenager, Rob found himself caught in addiction, poor choices, and believing labels that told him he would never become more than his mistakes. What began with prescription drugs eventually led to homelessness, incarceration, and a life headed in the wrong direction. For a long time, he believed the labels.
Addict. Criminal. Failure. Lost Cause.
The more he believed those labels, the more he lived them out.
At rock bottom, God began writing a new story. Around that time, Rob met Erin, who would become his wife, and together they walked into a church and surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. That moment didn’t erase their past, but it completely changed their future. For the first time, Rob began seeing himself through God’s grace instead of his failures. What once felt hopeless became the beginning of a new life, as the two of them committed to building a future rooted in faith, purpose, and service.
The name Rare of Breed represents people who choose to walk a different path. While it aligns with Rob's initials, the meaning runs much deeper. It is about leaving behind the labels the world places on us and embracing who God says we are. It is about pursuing purpose, living set apart, and walking the narrow road even when it feels different or lonely. What started as one man's story became a community of people choosing to live differently.
As Rob began sharing his story through music, he developed a sound that didn't fit neatly into a single genre. Drawing from country roots, hip-hop influence, and gospel truth, he created what became known as GodTwang.
GodTwang is more than a style of music. It's a bridge.
A way to connect with people who may never walk into a church but are willing to listen to a song. A way to meet people where they are. A way to start conversations about hope, faith, and purpose.
Today, Rare of Breed is more than an artist name. GodTwang is more than a sound. Through concerts, prison outreach, prayer, testimony, and everyday conversations, the mission remains the same:
Helping people exchange the labels the world has given them for the identity God created them to live in.
Every song. Every mile. Every show. Every prayer. Every conversation.
It all points back to one simple truth: No one is beyond redemption. No one is too far gone. And no one has to carry it alone.
Whatever you're walking through, someone is praying for you by name. Submit a request — it will be seen, and it will be prayed over.
